Description

This small ivory netsuke features three figures wearing patterned kimono on a platform with large leaves. One of the figures, standing at the rear on the right side, is carrying a basket on the end of pole. Another figure, standing on the left side, is an anthropomorphic octopus dressed as a man and carrying a sickle on top of his head. The last figure, in the front of the right side, has fallen down; he raises his right arm and leg with his left hand out to catch himself. This netsuke likely depicts a scene from a folktale.
