Description

This set of four miniature anthropomorphized samurai animals was likely meant for display, rather than for play.

(a) is a miniature samurai boar, made of stuffed white cotton covered with a layer of brown that is flaking off. The boar is dressed in a red and gray woven paper jacket, and carries a cardboard sword. It has two ears with red interiors, black eyes, one black nostril (the other has presumably fallen off), a red mouth, and two dark brown tusks that are also flaking. There is a painted but illegible inscription on the back of its right rear leg.

(b) is a miniature samurai mouse, that is made of stuffed white cotton covered with a layer of brown that is flaking off and has a white belly. The mouse is dressed in a red woven fabric jacket with white polka dots, and carries a blue toothpick sword. It has two ears with red interiors, brown glass bead eyes, a red mouth, white whiskers, and a black stripe along the back of its head. There is a painted but illegible inscription on the back of its right rear leg.

(c) is a miniature samurai monkey riding a miniature fawn. The monkey is made of stuffed white cotton covered with a layer of brown that is flaking off, and dressed in a red and gray woven paper jacket. It carries a brown cardboard sword. It has two ears with red interiors, red markings around its eyes and forehead, black glass bead eyes, a red mouth, and red nostrils. The deer is also made of stuffed white cotton covered with a layer of brown, also flaking in areas, with white spots, a white belly, and remnants of black hooves. It has a red mouth and black glass bead eyes. Its antlers are painted brown with white spots.

(d) is another miniature samurai mouse, this one white. Also made of stuffed cotton, the mouse is dressed in a red woven fabric jacket with white polka dots, and carries a brown toothpick sword. It has two ears with red interiors, red glass bead eyes, a red mouth, and white whiskers.
